Revelation #5

Ephesus

Ephesus

John, the author of the Book of Revelation, was required to write to the seven churches about what he had seen. Each of his letters starts with a revelation of Jesus Christ, and these set the scene for each letter.

The church in Ephesus, the first of the seven, had lost its first love. As John wrote, “…Repent and do the things you did at first…” (Revelation 2:5).

This is not just a challenge to the Ephesian church; it is a challenge to all of us. They needed a fresh revelation of Jesus Christ, and so do we.

In his unveiling, John had seen seven lampstands, which represented the seven churches; and seven stars, which represented the seven messengers of the churches (Cf. Revelation 1:20).

So, he wrote, “…To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands…” (Revelation 2:1).

These are the three revelations we need when we are tempted to lose our initial enthusiasm or commitment.

Jesus Christ walks among us, holds us, and speaks to us.

Do we honour His Presence?

Do we trust His grasp?

Do we heed His word?
