Guard Your Heart #8

Our Choices

Our Choices

So far, in this series, I have looked at three foundations for a healthy heart (identity, diet, and lifestyle) and three indicators for an unhealthy one (speech, focus, and thoughts).

The fourth, and final, indicator is our choices.

We know our spiritual heart health is poor when we make poor choices.

The writer of Psalm 42, for example, had a downcast soul. His unwise choices were an indicator that something was wrong – something had to be done – something needed to change.

He decided to intentionally place his hope in God, praise Him, and remember what He had done. His choices both landed him in trouble and also rescued him from trouble.

The passage in Proverbs which tells us to ‘guard our heart’ also says, “…Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil…” (Proverbs 4:27).

It is simple but vital advice. Our daily choices and our intentional steps keep us on the right track.

Do you find yourself making poor choices about your personal health?

When your soul is downcast what do you choose to do?

What regular spiritual disciplines do you have in place?
