The Holy Spirit #3
The Holy Spirit & Illumination
The Holy Spirit & Illumination

There are several events in the Bible that I would love to have witnessed firsthand, but two stand out – the announcement of Jesus Christ’s ministry in the synagogue at Nazareth, and the conversation with His two disciples on the road to Emmaus.
Both involved Jesus opening the Scriptures.
In the latter case, the Bible says, “…beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself…” (Luke 24:27).
Their reaction was understandable. They said, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32).
This is one of the best examples of the illumination of the Scriptures that I can find.
Illumination is a work of the Holy Spirit through which He enables the Bible to ‘come alive’ in our lives.
Whereas the Holy Spirit’s inspiration of the Scriptures is completed, His illumination is a daily process.
May I encourage you to invite the Holy Spirit into your room every time you open the Scriptures. His desire is to transform your heart and life, as He did with the disciples on the Emmaus Road.
Do you pray for illumination?
Does your heart burn within you?
Do you allow the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus Christ to you each time you read the Bible?
