The Holy Spirit #2

The Holy Spirit & Inspiration

The Holy Spirit & Inspiration

From the moment I became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I knew that the Bible was the word of God.

One of the first verses I learned was, “…All Scripture is God-breathed…” (2 Timothy 3:16). For me, the role of the Holy Spirit in the inspiration of the Bible was never in doubt (2 Peter 1:20-21).

I am certain that the Bible is, as the Church of England’s 39 Articles states, “…God’s Word written…” But I have discovered that my certainty is not necessarily the norm.

According to one survey, over 60% of born-again Christians don’t believe in absolute truth.

So now when I train students, I encourage them to do what Billy Graham did at the beginning of his ministry and choose to believe that the Bible is God’s inspired word, even though they may not fully understand it.

They are not helping anyone if they question the power or authority of the text from which they are preaching.

When we stand up to preach or teach, our faith is on display. Whatever our doubts, journey, or background, we have a responsibility to preach with confidence.

Do you remind yourself regularly of the authority and accuracy of God’s word?

Do you allow the anointing of the Spirit to add weight to your proclamation?

Do you treat the word you are declaring with the respect it deserves?
