Ephiphany #1

The Wise Men

The Wise Men

Each year in December we put up our Christmas decorations. These include several nativity scenes.

Most nativity scenes include both the shepherds and the kings together. But, of course, we know this didn’t happen.

Whereas the shepherds found Christ in a manger (Luke 2:16), the Magi found Him in a house (Matthew 2:11).

Traditionally, this second event is celebrated on the sixth of January, the feast day known as Epiphany, which means ‘appearance’. It recognizes that Christ appeared to the Gentiles.

The Bible says, “…On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh…” (Matthew 2:11).

The wise men from the East sought the King of the Jews and remarkably were included in His story of salvation. They were overjoyed and bowed in worship.

As you end your Christmas celebrations, take down your decorations, and prepare for the New Year, why don’t you take time to respond as they did – with grateful worship.
