Our Legacy #8

We Pass On What We Receive

We Pass On What We Receive

When I was a child, I used to collect coins. Many of them were given to me by my mother.

Although I no longer have my collection, I still possess a half sovereign she gave me. I have passed the others on to others.

In this series, I have used eight generations of my family to illustrate eight things we pass on from one generation to the next. We pass on what we speak, write, carry, achieve, teach, love, value and this final one.

We pass on what we receive – even if it as insignificant as a coin. However, the Bible records other much more significant attributes that can be passed on.

Isaac passed on blessing (Genesis 27:27-29), Moses passed on authority and wisdom (Numbers 27:18-20) (Deuteronomy 34:9), and Paul and the elders passed on spiritual gifts (2 Timothy 1:6) (1 Timothy 4:14).

To do this effectively, each of these people knew they had received something from God, and also knew they had the ability to pass it on to others. They had faith to receive and faith to impart. As Jesus said, “…freely you have received; freely give…”(Matthew 10:8).

Do you know what divine attributes you possess?

Do you have the faith and confidence to pass them on to others?

Who is going to fulfill your role when you are gone? What have you passed on to them?

Robert
